Poster Printer Installation

Before installing the poster printer, please register for the Beckman Public Printing service. To register for printing, see our Printing Registration page.

Installing the Poster Printer on Windows Vista

1. Download the Zip archive of the HP z6100 driver.
2. Extract the downloaded driver by double clicking on it and choosing Extract all Files from the Folder Tasks menu on the left side of the window. Note the location to which you extracted the files.
3. Click on the Windows Start button and type \\bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.edu in the Start Search box.
4. Enter your Public Printing username and password in the User name and Password fields of the Connect to bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.... dialogue box.
5. If you do not wish to enter your password every time you use the printer, click on the Remember my password box and then click on OK.
6. A new window comes up with a listing of printers and several folders.
7. Choose poster-z6100.
8. You will get a message saying: “The server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed . . .” Click on OK to install the driver.
9. In the Add Printer Wizard box, click on the Have Disk button.
10. Browse to the directory in which you extracted the driver in step 2.
11. Select the “hpi610xd.inf” file and click the Open button.
12. Choose HP DeskJet Z6100ps 60in Photo PS3 and click on the OK button.
13. In the Install From Disk window click on the OK button to finish installing the printer. The poster printer is now installed on your computer.

Installing the Poster Printer on Windows XP

1. Download the Zip archive of the HP z6100 driver.
2. Extract the downloaded driver by double clicking on it and choosing Extract all Files from the Folder Tasks menu on the left side of the window. Note the location to which you extracted the files.
3. Click on the Windows Start button, choose Run, type \\bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.edu and click OK.
4. Enter your Public Printing username and password in the User name and Password fields of the Connect to bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.... dialogue box.
5. If you do not wish to enter your password every time you use the printer, click on the Remember my password box and then click on OK.
6. A new window comes up with a listing of printers and several folders.
7. Choose poster-z6100.
8. You will get a message saying: “The server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed . . .” Click on OK to install the driver.
9. In the Add Printer Wizard box, click on the Have Disk button.

Installing the Poster Printer on OS 10.5

1. Download Mac_OS_X_HP_Designjet_Driver.dmg file.
2. Open the .dmg and allow the file to unpack
3. In the installer window, click “Mac OS X HP DesignjetInstaller”
4. If you are prompted, choose “Open.”
5. If prompted, enter your username and password to grant permission to run the installer.
6. In the Introduction window, select Continue.
7. In the Read Me window, select Continue.
8. In the License window, read the license and select Continue.
9. If you agree to the terms of the license, select Agree.
10. Verify that Easy Install is selected and click Install.
11. If prompted to do so, close all other applications and select Continue.
12. Allow the installer to unpack and install the necessary files.
13. Select No, Thank You to skip registration.
14. Go to the Print and Fax System Preferences panel.
15. In the Print & Fax Preferences panel, click on the "+" symbol.
16. In the Printer Browser window, verify that IP Printer is selected.
    Fill in the following information:
    Protocol: Line Printer Daemon (LPD)
    Address: bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.edu
    Queue: poster-z6100
    Name: HP z6100 Poster Printer
    Location: Beckman 5th Floor
17. In the Print Using: field choose HP Designjet Z6100ps 60in Photo from the drop down menu.
18. Click the Add button to finish installing the printer.

Installing the Poster Printer on OS 10.4

1. Download Mac_OS_X_HP_Designjet_Driver.dmg file.
2. Open the .dmg and allow the file to unpack
3. In the installer window, double click “Mac OS X HP DesignjetInstaller”
4. If you are prompted, choose “Open.”
5. If prompted, enter your username and password to grant permission to run the installer.

8. In the License window, read the license and select Continue.
9. If you agree to the terms of the license, select Agree.
10. Verify that Easy Install is selected and click Install.
11. If prompted to do so, close all other applications and select Continue.

13. Select No, Thank You to skip registration.
14. Go to the Print and Fax System Preferences panel.

17. In the Print Using: field select HP. From the drop down list choose HP Designjet Z6100ps 60in Photo.
18. Click the Add button to finish installing the printer.
