Linux/Unix Installation Guide
There are at least three types of unix printing: BSD, CUPS and System V. Below are some clues that should be helpful to you in setting up printing in your environment.
Printcap files are used in BSD style printing. Here is a sample entry for a black and white printer:
#
# Remote entry for HP 9000 DN (2267 BI) - simplex printing
#
bw2:\
:lp=:\
:rm=bi-printhost.beckman.uiuc.edu:\
:rp=bw2:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/bw2:\
:lf=/var/spool/lpd/bw2-log:\
:mx#0:
The important points from this example are:
* The first line is typically the local queue name
* The rm: line is typically the remote print server
* The rp: line is typically the remote queue name on the print server
PPD Files
